Removing Administrative Rights to End-Users – Issue 1: Users are not able to add new printers to their profile

25 Jul

Users’ complains usually come as the following :

· I receive an error when I try to connect to a printer

· It may be an “Access Denied” error

· Or something like “A policy is in effect on your computer which prevents you from connecting to this print queue.”

In most of the cases, this is due to restricted permissions given to the users: they are not allowed to install the printer drivers.

How to fix the issue ? It’s simple, Microsoft provides a set of policies you can configure. Have a look to Knowledge Base Article 888046:

You will use the policy “Load and unload device drivers” under Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\User Rights Assignment to give rights to a user group, coupled with “Point and Print Restrictions” disabling.
