Exchange Resource Room – “This resource does not accept meetings longer than 1440 minutes” error

20 Jan

If you configured your Exchange Resource Rooms to Autoaccept meeting requests (see one of my previous posts on this), you may have received complains from your users about their inability to book the rooms for events lasting more than 1 day.

In this specific case they receive this error as an initial response to their meeting request:

An output of your Resource Room calendar settings using Exchange Management Shell will show you the maximum duration time set to 1440 minutes:

[PS] C:Windowssystem32>Get-MailboxCalendarSettings -Identity X | FL

AutomateProcessing : AutoAccept

AllowConflicts : True

BookingWindowInDays : 180

MaximumDurationInMinutes : 1440

AllowRecurringMeetings : True

EnforceSchedulingHorizon : True

ScheduleOnlyDuringWorkHours : False

ConflictPercentageAllowed : 100

MaximumConflictInstances : 100

AddNewRequestsTentatively : True

ProcessExternalMeetingMessages : False

DefaultReminderTime : 15

RemoveForwardedMeetingNotifications : False

Identity : domain.local/Users/X

So, to fix the issue, you need to set that maximum duration time to a greater value.

For example, you might want your users to be able to book a room for a 5-days long event, meaning 7200minutes (including non-business hours).

You can set your room accordingly using :

Set-MailboxCalendarSettings -Identity X -MaximumDurationInMinutes 7200

If you need to do it for tens of rooms like me, then you may use a shell command like the following:

Get-Mailbox | where {$_.ResourceType -eq "Room"} | Set-MailboxCalendarSettings -MaximumDurationInMinutes 7200

Note that in Exchange 2010, there is a new command that helps do the configuration which is:

Set-CalendarProcessing -Identity X -MaximumDurationInMinutes 7200

Excellent! It worked. Yours was the first article that seemed to show the correct syntax for Exchange 2007. Thanks again.

You’re welcome, Tim. I’m glad it helped!
