IBM uEFI Flash Update for IBM x3650 M2 running Windows 2008

04 Apr

In trying to fix a hardware issue on an IBM x3650 M2 (server repeatedly had a blue screen “Hardware Error – 600”), I downloaded the latest firmware available for the server from IBM website.

IBM provides a complete Readme file with all information on the firmware fixes and the installation process.

So typing at the command line with administrative privilege in your Windows 2008 server session:

ibm_fw_uefi_d6e150c-_windows_32-64.exe (assuming you are already in the right path where you downloaded the firmware) gives you the following GUI:

You are required to enter a username/password which is actually: USERID/PASSW0RD (note that it is “zero” not the letter “O”) and to start the firmware install.

The wizard then shows you the installation progress as follows:

IBM Command Line IMM Flash Update Utility v1.11.03
